Enclosed a letter from CEB-President Wolfgang Rittmann concerning the participation in the EC 2015:Dear Boards of the Federations,
dear Colleagues, Sportswomen, and Sportsmen! All those who have expert knowledge with tournament planning know from own experience that it is not easy to establish a time schedule for such a „mammoth championship“ as in Brandenburg. The time target of 10 days and the disciplines which have to be held constitute the framework and the guidelines. The time schedule had been established with a lot of expertise and with the experience of the EC 2013 one even succeeded in straightening that one still further. However, it is inevitable that championships have to run in parallel. But also here the „makers“ have exerted themselves as far as being possible at all to limit those to the most necessary minimum. Certainly, there will be the one or the other sportsperson who would have liked to have it in a different way on account of her/his individual perspective. But an individually tailored time schedule which pleases everybody is in real terms not presentable. I think we have consensus concerning this. Of course, there will be always sportsperson at such a concentrated sports presentation who would have shaped such a plan in a better way from their individual perspective. But the makers have just objectively the entirety in sight and not the individuals with their different multiplicity of individual wishes and demands. Of course, one could theoretically drive the rectification that far, by means of an extension by one week or by even using double time, that that one would be coming to the limit of which is optimal. But let us also think of the about 100 volunteers and referees who are already now sacrificing up to 3 weeks of their holidays. More than that can surely not be demanded and is not possible. But also from the cost side of the CEB this could not be carried and I also think that the federations and the sportspersons would not be positive with regard to such a space of time for most different reasons. I do not want to further enter into this, but want to leave it like that as a stimulation for thoughts. There will be enough space at the CEB congress to consult with the federations about the future. Good, constructively helpful thoughts are always welcome. Of course, one would have to prevent on account of overlaps impossible inscriptions/participations in the inscription system. One had at least expected insistent references, that’s what one can hear. Yes, indeed, one can do everything –at least a lot- better. However, you also know that the webpage of the CEB is brand-new and has been publicly released at short notice with the beginning of the inscriptions and faults which have to be corrected often emerge for the first time by using it. Our experts will work on that in order to incorporate also here quickly the necessary changes. Therefore, there is not any other choice than that one, that sportspersons who have inscribed for several disciplines which are overlapping each other concerning time in such a way that a multiple-participation is not possible, have to make a decision. The sports and the youth director will approach you as quickly as possible in order to bring about this clarification, in case that clarification need is existing. If requests remain without reply on short notice, thus the aforementioned persons will have to decide to the best of their knowledge, since the time for the publication of the definite participants-lists is more than pushing. Finally, please allow me still a reference to comparable situations which all of you know. Even at the Olympics and/or World Championships of big Olympic kinds of sports the time line has priority. Sportswomen and sportsmen with high medal prospects in several disciplines have to decide for one of them since the competitions are running in parallel. Thus it is not a typical phenomenon of billiards but is owed to the duration of a big sporting event. Also by the sports the hours of a day are not extendable for its events. Here each sport has to adapt to the indispensable requirement. Let us take it the way it is. Please assist in order to quickly achieve solutions. Let us look together forward to a great billiards event in Brandenburg an der Havel. I am looking forward to our sportswomen and sportsmen and their performances and to meeting a lot of you on the spot. With kindest regards Confédération Européenne de Billard Yours Wolfgang Rittmann
