DOUAI-CARVIN TAKES THE TITLE AWAY FROM DOUARNENEZ
What an exciting day we had in the Espace Jules Verne in Douarnenez!
Today the semifinals of the Coupe d'Europe Classic were played as planned.
The plot twist happened in the morning in the first semifinal when the Austria team of Wiener BA ruined the dream of the sixth title in a row for the home team of Douarnenez. Arnim Kahofer won his 1-Cushion match against Gregory Le Deventec while Raymund Swertz equalized with a win over Michael Hikl in 71/2. The decider match in 47/2 was a victory for the Austrian Patrick Andre over Marek Faus. Wiener BA was therefore the first to reach the final.
The second semifinal was interrupted after 2 games were secured by Douai-Carvin and nothing else could be done by the Dutch team of De Hazelaar. Frederic Caudron won Eric Dericks in 1-Cushion and Patrick Niessen beat Jordy Kanters in 47/2 for Douai-Carvin. The third match between Michael Hikl and Pascal Dessaint in 71/2 was interrupted.
In the final the French team of Douai-Carvin faced the Austrian of Wiener BA. There were moments of suspense when Frederic Caudron closed the 1-Cushion match to 120 points and Arnim Kahofer in the equalization shot reached 119 points, but he failed the last points. Then Patrick Niessen won the 47/2 against Patrick Andre making the third match (Hikl and Dessaint) uninfluent and Douai-Carvin could finally celebrate the title. For Frederic Caudron is the first gold in the Coupe d'Europe Classic, he got bronze and silver in 2011 and 2012 with the Spanish of Centelles. Patrick Niessen already won this trophy 6 times in the past with the Dutch team of Cubti / Etikon. For Dessaint it's a first time. This is also the second time on the podium for an Austrian team after the bronze of last season for the national representative which included Kahofer and Hikl.
Final standings:
1st: Douai-Carvin (France)
2nd: Wiener BA (Austria)
