Eddy Merckx and Frédéric Caudron bring a third consecutive world title to Belgium by winning in finale against the Netherlands (Dick Jaspers, Barry van Beers).Semi-finals were very intense, Merckx and Caudron won with only one carom difference against Turkey (Tayfun Tasdemir, Tolgahan Kiraz) while Germany (Martin Horn, Stefan Galla) was very close to win against the Netherlands.
The fantastic Belgian duo realizes a new world record by exceeding for the first time the bar of 2.00 general average, exactly 2.195 ! Also note their extraordinary first match at 3.636
This World Championship was a big success with 24 teams, 21 nations, a “Festhalle” of Viersen packed from the first day and spectators who attended for 4 days a sport show of highest level.
