Antalya, Turkey will be the kickoff for the new World Cup cycle of 2019. From 11 – 17 February, the Turkish Riviera hosts the world’s best players in the 178th World Cup played since 1986. The Turkish federation has given wildcards to Lütfi Cenet and Birol Uymaz, the UMB wildcard was awarded to Pedro Piedrabuena. The golden generation of 3-cushion players from Europe is getting on a bit, in age. But they refuse to give up the throne. Eight players in their fifties and forties, all from Europe, showed eight players in their forties, thirties and twenties, all from Asia that there is still a gap to be closed. In twelve years of “Hurghada” tournaments, Dick Jaspers had never managed to win. He broke that bad tradition this Saturday afternoon. The final World Cup of the season was won by the Dutchman, who beat his main rival Frédéric Caudron in a nervous final: 40 – 34 in 21 innings.
